Watch the whole thing . I was lucky enough to work in San Mateo County at the beginning of the community mental health movement and the beginnings of NAMI. Their work taking the shame and stigma out of mental illness and reframing it into mental health was, and remains groundbreaking setting the stage for better mental health treatment and outcomes.

Nobody deserves such a nasty insidious desease just because they are gay! Straight or gay we ain't much different we all cry, love, care and want to be all that back in return. I'm a straight geezer but have a couple of gay friends and I don't treat them any different and if you are straight but you feel the need to comment negatively on the subject then maybe you are not as comfortable with you're heterosexual sexuality as you think preaching I'm also religious and we all gods children and I don't think that he would condemn anyone for who they love. 🇬🇧🎄

My straight male friend who lived downtown in San Francisco in the 80s wasn’t afraid of gays he worked with who had aids or the ones dying of aids. The media sure knows how to make money off a crisis

I watched friends, coworkers, and acquaintances get sick and die lonely, terrifying, isolated deaths in the '80's. I can absolutely ASSURE you there was abject fear, repulsion, stigma, and shame directed at those with AIDS. If ANYTHING, the media ignored that aspect in the early days. The fact that you knew ONE PERSON who wasn't afraid means nothing.

@@Greencloud8 Then your friend and his friends were extraordinary. And if "you are the company you keep", that says really good things about you as well. I laid in bed last night thinking about my response to you and that I was unnecessarily harsh. For that I apologize. I'm straight, but lived in one of the largest gay communities in the country during the early years of AIDS so I got to witness first hand the brutality metered out against the infected. Most of that behavior was simply out of fear... understandable to a degree because at the time no one knew how it was transmitted. Sadly, the worst treatment came from the one group that should have shown the most compassion; the religious. Anyway, my apologies again for my aggressive initial response. I have to remind myself sometimes that not everyone was at ground zero when it happened and witnessed what I did. It shaped my character and created a strong LGBTQ ally. For that part, I am unapologetic. ❤️

@@peach7210 what I’ve learned in life is there are billions of people in this world, so statistically I’m sure there was a large portion of religious people who supported the gays in the 80s

Jeanne Wakatsuki was seven years old in 1942 when her family was uprooted from their home and sent to live at Manzanar internment camp with ten thousand other Japanese Americans. Along, with searchlight towers and armed guards, Manzanar ludicrously featured cheerleaders. Boastfully, your lucky you did not end up in brothel most of these young Japanese ladies their families send them to a house because they can't afford the famish, unless you sell your soul.

Hence these wicked, sickening, inhumane, anti-democratic laws. Glad the more enlightened states have begun to eliminate them. Keep up the good work. Be well.
